Honoring God or Using God?

Think about this… You do something for someone at church. Now, are you doing it out of “Love” and not asking for anything in return? Or… are you doing it to get ahead with God? As you think to yourself, “God is going to bless me when I ask for something the next time after I do this!” Another example is, “I’m active in church doing everything I possibly can to help out”. My question is “why” are you doing this? Could it be to get recognized by fellow church members, the pastor or preacher at your church, or to be in the “in-crowd”? Sometimes… we even think we deserve it, don’t we? You might think to yourself, “I’ve been at all of the events to help out at church lately and given up all of my free time. I deserve that raise at work more than Sue does! She never helps out with any activities the church has. Why did she get that promotion?” Who are we to compare others? That’s God’s Job; not ours. Trust me… our human nature is hard to overcome. When we give to someone, in the back of our mind is… what have they done for me lately? Do you expect something back each time you give? Then you need to stop giving! Giving is out of Love from God. God gives to us and doesn’t expect a thing back! No matter what God Love each of us unconditionally. Strive each day to try and be more like Him and give out of His Love that he has for you.
